Seoul Drama Awards 2015: Selection & LKDC interview
Registrations for the Seoul Drama Awards 2015 just came to an end on April 30 23:59. While Korean TV dramas traditionally constitute the centre piece of the country’s most prestigious TV event, foreign TV fiction is taking a larger space across the TV series, miniseries and TV movie categories.
Three Korean dramas will be competing in the serial category this year: KBS’ What Happens to My Family, MBC’s Legendary Witches and jTBC’s Yoo-na’s Street.
The TV mini-series category will certainly be the most competitive with Korean networks having submitted a large share of this year’s top shows – with many of them being presented at this year’s London Korean Drama Screenings, while foreign entries include top shows from all over the globe, including the UK.
SBS leads the category in number of Korean drama submissions, which include Pinocchio (screening this Thursday at the KCCUK!), Temptation, You’re All Surrounded, Dr. Stranger, Secret Door and Hyde, Jekyll, Me. MBC have submitted Kill Me Heal Me (screened last month at the KCCUK), while KBS’ entries are Gunman in Joseon and Discovery of Love. CJ E&M also participates with Emergency Couple and Bad Guys.
Three UK production companies are competing in this same category, BBC Worldwide submitting four (Wolf Hall, Orphan Black – Season 3, Call the Midwife – Season 4, Doctor Who – Season 8). Kudos is presenting three dramas, including Broadchurch, Utopia – Season 2 and From There to Here. Grandchester was also submitted by Lovely Day.
Korean broadcasters will also compete in the TV movie category, usually dominated by foreign submissions: Snowy Path and Drama Special: Monster for KBS and Spinster Diaries for MBC.
We are also proud to announce that the London Korean Drama Club, as the only Online Supporter of the Seoul Drama Awards based abroad, was interviewed for the April edition of the SDA’s Webmagazine. You can read the interview HERE.
As a side note, I am personally proud that my company is competing for the first time with our Hallmark original TV movie, Wedding Planner Mystery, starring Erica Durance (Smallville, Saving Hope).
