tvN sets The Three Musketeers remake in 17th century Korea
In April 2014, it was announced that KBS had acquired the rights to broadcast BBC Worldwide’s TV series The Muskateers.
Less than three months later, and even before the broadcast, CJ E&M announced today that it has commissioned a TV adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ novel for its tvN cable channel.
We were mentioning in other articles that Korean TV drama remakes were becoming more common in the West, but also that the British wave was sort of blowing in South Korea… that news combine both aspects in setting a first such move in the Korean TV industry: the remake of a British TV drama format.
The Korean remake will be set during the 17th Century Joseon Dynasty (what else?!) and will follow the crown prince Sohyeon (to be played by Lee Jin-wook), his fellow warriors Heo Seung-pop and An Min-seo as well as Park Dal-hyang a man preparing for his military examination.
The Three Musketeers Korean adaptation will be made of three 12-episodes series and the second season will be shot in China. Filming begins in July for an August 12 broadcast premiere.
The project will see CJ E&M reunite scriptwriter Song Jae-jung, director Kim Byung-soo, actor Lee Jin-wook and Korean pop star Jung Yong-hwa who had all previously worked on another tvN drama series, Nine: 9 Times Time Travel. That series had travelled all over the world, sold to 44 countries including Japan, China and the U.S. – where a remake is planned for ABC.
