DramaFever to add high-profile Korean movies
While already a few feature films were present on the DramaFever VOD platform, they were mostly independent catalogue Korean films and unfortunately are only viewable in the United States at the moment. Beyond the classic Death Bell (2008) and The Man from Nowhere (2010), only one recent movie was there: The Heaven is Open to the Single (2012).
This is going to change as the online video service has signed an output deal with top U.S. distributor of Asian films, Well Go USA, to bring a raft of high profile action and genre movies.
Among the titles Well Go will bring to DF on a monthly basis, there will be some of the best Korean movies of the past few years, including A Better Tomorrow, My Way, The Front Line, War of the Arrows, The Thieves, New World and Commitment (which we reviewed recently).
However, online U.S. viewers will benefit from that deal, and DramaFever will likely have to work with UK distributors to bring us those high quality contents.
The announcement follows a strategy review that has been going on for the past few months, as we could notice the Movies and Kids sections have been created to host the new range of contents. It is possible that DramaFever will expand into other areas of film and TV products, but as long as Korean TV dramas remain a cornerstone, we will be there to watch.
